Kidderminster's attentive Terry Baldwin managed to snatch the ball when Ralph Blowman made a throw-in in the 5th minute of the game. In the 8th minute, Kidderminster's Graeme Rice dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. Piers Bowe made a fantastic save in the 12th minute, when Doug Armstrong sent off a good shot on target. Dennis Faulkner recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dennis Faulkner in the 22nd minute of play forced Cardiff City's goalkeeper Piers Bowe to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cardiff City's Piers Bowe played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Doug Armstrong in the 23rd minute of play. In the 27th minute Liam Ackland shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dane Clist saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the match had gone on for 32 minutes, Dennis Faulkner took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Piers Bowe to make any attempt to save it. With a little luck, Cardiff City's Piers Bowe got control of the ball when Doug Armstrong tried to sneak it across the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Doug Armstrong kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Piers Bowe. That made the score 3-0 in the 45 minute of play.

Piers Bowe took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dennis Faulkner, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Graeme Rice scored 5-0 in the 59th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Piers Bowe, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Doug Armstrong in the 63rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Piers Bowe saved Cardiff City from getting behind. In the 64th minute, Dennis Faulkner ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Piers Bowe was frozen by the shot and now it was 6-0. 68 minutes into the game, Bobby Duffy was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Cardiff City's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Kidderminster the free kick. Piers Bowe made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Glenn Jump in the 70th minute of play. 83 minutes into the match, Cardiff City's goal looked a bit too open when Doug Armstrong came free, but Piers Bowe reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Piers Bowe showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Graeme Rice, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. Kristian Carpenter hit a great freekick 85 minutes into the match. If Doug Armstrong had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Kidderminster walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
