With a left leg Noureddine Metref saved Wem from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Newcastle's zone, Islem Bouguerra stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Zahid Saïfi came out of the goal and Islem Bouguerra tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.

Sayed Hansali hit a great freekick 51 minutes into the match. Erasmo Macera, 52 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. After 55 played minutes, Newcastle's Amar Yahi shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Noureddine Metref came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Newcastle reached it. 59 minutes into the match, Mareks Hamšík notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Wem's Noureddine Metref. Noureddine Metref was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Fouad Zerara's late challenge caught a Wem's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Fouad Zerara helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Newcastle's Fouad Zerara got a free kick in the 64th minute. Newcastle's Sid Ahmed Fadhil quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Afaghis Benguesmia, made in the 66th minute of the game. In the 73rd minute Mareks Hamšík shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Noureddine Metref saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 74 minutes, Mareks Hamšík managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Newcastle's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mareks Hamšík was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to Newcastle getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Yacine Bachdjerrah hit a great ball. After 81 minutes of play, Newcastle's Fouad Zerara made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Noureddine Metref was left in no man's land by his defense there! The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Newcastle had won after a very even match.
