The supporters of Espérance Algérienne booed when Castle Donington was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. After 46 minutes, Cherif Lacen mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Castle Donington and the Espérance Algérienne players grew even worse after the yellow card. When the match clock showed 47 minutes, the score became 9-0 when Djamil Ayad sped through Castle Donington's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Fawzi Benichou. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
