Simão Pepetela could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 24th minute of the match, but Alda Da Costa made a huge save. After 25 played minutes Cubo Verde got a freekick which was hit by Paulo Gonçalves. With a little luck, Cubo Verde's Alda Da Costa got control of the ball when Simão Pepetela tried to sneak it across the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Marílio Lima Clemente in the 32nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Carlos Polido saved Salford from getting behind. Marílio Lima Clemente received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Carlos Polido tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Emílio Borges struck a weak shot in the 38th minute. Alda Da Costa didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Salford. In the 42nd minute, Marílio Lima Clemente got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Marílio Lima Clemente made the kick off in the second half. Cubo Verde's Alda Da Costa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Felíx Nascimento in the 57th minute of play. Carlos Polido didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 61st minute, which inside left pole to 0-1. Salford's Carlos Polido proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 64th minute of the match, managed to save Salford from getting a goal against them. Luís Melo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 71st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Emílio Borges struck a weak shot in the 77th minute. Alda Da Costa didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Salford. The long shot by Rodrigo Malheiro in the 82nd minute really tested Carlos Polido's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Marílio Lima Clemente sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Carlos Polido was a little too slow when Rodrigo Da Costa got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 85th minute. The score was now 0-3. After having played for 89 minutes, Marílio Lima Clemente managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cubo Verde's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marílio Lima Clemente was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The Cubo Verde supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Cubo Verde would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
