Birkenhead's Pedro Bouça played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lopo Carvoeiro in the 9th minute of play. Pedro Bouça showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lopo Carvoeiro in the 10th minute of the match. If Lopo Carvoeiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 24th minute, Paulo Bastos managed to get in a good position for a shot. Birkenhead's supporters rose to their feet, but Paulo Bastos was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. David Sampaio breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Pedro Bouça showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lopo Carvoeiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. Lopo Carvoeiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pedro Bouça having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lopo Carvoeiro in the 33rd minute of play forced Birkenhead's goalkeeper Pedro Bouça to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 33 minutes of play, Petro de Luanda's Lopo Carvoeiro made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Pedro Bouça was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 36th minute of the match Miguel Maurito sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Pedro Bouça skillfully saved the ball. Toni Caetano struck a weak shot in the 38th minute. Pedro Bouça didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Petro de Luanda. After a defensive mix-up in Petro de Luanda's zone, Hernani Caneças stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. David Sampaio came out of the goal and Hernani Caneças tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Petro de Luanda getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Toni Caetano hit a great ball. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Lopo Carvoeiro to make the kick off. In the 52nd minute, Miguel Maurito hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Birkenhead's Pedro Bouça proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 57th minute of the match, managed to save Birkenhead from getting a goal against them. Pedro Bouça acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 63rd minute, took the ball on the long shot from Miguel Maurito. With his leg Pedro Bouça managed to avoid a goal in the 67thth minute, when Petro de Luanda's Toni Caetano fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Birkenhead were furious when Lopo Polido was red carded, 74 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. In the 74th minute, one of Birkenhead:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Birkenhead. In the 76th minute there was a penalty for Petro de Luanda. Quim Dikaté stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Pedro Bouça. 0-2. In the 82nd match minute, Birkenhead was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Magno Bouça to maneuver through the defense. The audience thought a goal was coming when Toni Caetano got free with Pedro Bouça in the 87th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Miguel Maurito kicked well hit freekick during the 88th minute of the match. 89 minutes into the game, Viveque Pedrosa was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Petro de Luanda's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Birkenhead the free kick. After 89 played minutes Petro de Luanda got a freekick which was hit by Viveque Pedrosa. After a defensive mix-up in Petro de Luanda's zone, Hélio Fernandes Braga stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. David Sampaio came out of the goal and Hélio Fernandes Braga tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Petro de Luanda's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
