The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The supporters of Marienburg booed when FC Ngwenyeni was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Raymond Mhlongo didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 27th minute, Marienburg's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Vuyani Takane fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. The audience thought a goal was coming when Hanile Mnisi got free with Jabu Mothobi in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Ivan Nauseb had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hanile Mnisi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Mawetu Thwala kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match. Jabu Mothobi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vuyani Takane in the 44th minute of play. Hanile Mnisi's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Jabu Mothobi firmly grabbed it by the left post. After the first half Marienburg were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Vuyani Takane made the kick off in the second half. FC Ngwenyeni's Akil Konza played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Soloman Macheke in the 66th minute of play. Hanile Mnisi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 74th minute, Godfrey Magakula hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jabu Mothobi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hanile Mnisi in the 81st minute of play. In the 82nd match minute, FC Ngwenyeni was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Raymond Mhlongo to maneuver through the defense. In the 84th minute, Raymond Mhlongo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Akil Konza made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jomo Dinha in the 85th minute. After a rather tough play, Marienburg's Gordon Kubheka got a free kick in the 90th minute. If Mpho Miti had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Jabu Mothobi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vuyani Takane in the 93rd minute of the match. The FC Ngwenyeni supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Marienburg's performance. The match ended with a win for Marienburg.
