In the 5th minute, Oliver Zwane hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 11th match minute, Mamelodi Sundowns was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Wycliffe Klein to maneuver through the defense. FC Wepener's Daniel Mumede got a good chance for a goal in the 12th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Lindo Strauss kicked well hit freekick during the 14th minute of the match. David Mfeke struck a weak shot in the 15th minute. Dumisane Webb didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mamelodi Sundowns. The supporters of FC Wepener booed when Mamelodi Sundowns was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Enock Edwards didn't get a good kick on the ball. Oliver Zwane fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jikolo Thwala having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Mamelodi Sundowns's Norman Steyn got a free kick in the 37th minute. Nelson Nauseb received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Dumisane Webb tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nelson Nauseb's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dumisane Webb read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 42nd minute of play. Daniel Mumede could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 44th minute of the match, but Jikolo Thwala made a huge save. After having played for 47 minutes, Oliver Zwane managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Wepener's supporters crossed their fingers, but Oliver Zwane was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

54 minutes into the match, Daniel Mumede had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jikolo Thwala. Mamelodi Sundowns's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Daniel Mumede was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. After a defensive mix-up in FC Wepener's zone, David Mfeke stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dumisane Webb came out of the goal and David Mfeke tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Nelson Nauseb had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. FC Wepener's Oliver Zwane got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 68th match minute, Mamelodi Sundowns was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bomikaze Ngake to maneuver through the defense. Bomikaze Ngake's late challenge caught a FC Wepener's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Bomikaze Ngake helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Mamelodi Sundowns getting a freekick after 70 minutes play. Bomikaze Ngake hit a great ball. 71 minutes into the match, Mamelodi Sundowns's goal looked a bit too open when Oliver Zwane came free, but Jikolo Thwala reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mamelodi Sundowns's Jikolo Thwala played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Mumede in the 78th minute of play. 79 minutes into the match, Daniel Mumede had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jikolo Thwala. Mamelodi Sundowns's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Daniel Mumede was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. Jikolo Thwala made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Oliver Zwane in the 86th minute of play. In the 92nd minute, David Mfeke fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Dumisane Webb, passed just outside the right post. Through an outstanding action, after 96 minutes, Dumisane Webb successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. FC Wepener had won after a very even match.
