The Mamelodi Sundowns fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jikolo Thwala should have stopped the shot. David Mfeke struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. Aubrey Webb didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mamelodi Sundowns. Thanyani Madima sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 22nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Mamelodi Sundowns's goalkeeper Jikolo Thwala, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The supporters of FC YamYam booed when Mamelodi Sundowns was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bomikaze Ngake didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Mamelodi Sundowns getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Shaheed Kanku hit a great ball. Bomikaze Ngake hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. Noxolo Patel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jikolo Thwala having to interfere. If Thanyani Madima had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell David Mfeke to make the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 51st minute, Thanyani Madima managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC YamYam's supporters rose to their feet, but Thanyani Madima was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jikolo Thwala breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Jikolo Thwala stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Thanyani Madima's shot from short distance in the 53rd minute. Lebang Mangope sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 71st match minute, Mamelodi Sundowns was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bomikaze Ngake to maneuver through the defense. Aubrey Webb took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from David Mfeke, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Thanyani Madima in the 81st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jikolo Thwala saved Mamelodi Sundowns from getting behind. In the 84thth minute of the game David Mfeke who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FC YamYam's Aubrey Webb was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Noxolo Patel in the 87th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jikolo Thwala saved Mamelodi Sundowns from getting behind. Nelson Nauseb received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Aubrey Webb tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. David Mfeke was extremely unlucky when he, in the 90th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Nelson Nauseb fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aubrey Webb having to interfere. In the 93rd minute David Mfeke shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aubrey Webb saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 97th minute, Bomikaze Ngake hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The FC YamYam fans cheered their team off the field, for while Mamelodi Sundowns had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
