Nelson Nausebs short, quick shot in the 10thth minute got Mpho Qabi to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. When Brandon Sewele came up free with the goalie in the 12th minute, the FC Zimbane fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Brandon Sewele couldn't finish the play. Mpenza Tembe kicked well hit freekick during the 15th minute of the match. If Nelson Nauseb had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 21 minutes into the match, FC Zimbane's goalkeeper Mpho Qabi had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nelson Nauseb. An unexpectedly hard shot by David Mfeke in the 23rd minute of play forced FC Zimbane's goalkeeper Mpho Qabi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. FC Zimbane's Mpho Qabi proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 24th minute of the match, managed to save FC Zimbane from getting a goal against them. Mpho Sono scored 0-1 in the 29th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jikolo Thwala, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Jikolo Thwala showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mpho Sono, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. Brandon Sewele received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Jikolo Thwala tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Brandon Sewele fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jikolo Thwala having to interfere. 44 minutes into the match, Mpho Sono had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jikolo Thwala. Mamelodi Sundowns's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Mpho Sono was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when David Mfeke made the kick off in the second half. Mpho Qabi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from David Mfeke in the 51st minute of play. The supporters of Mamelodi Sundowns booed when FC Zimbane was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mpho Sono didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 70 minutes, Mpho Sono managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Zimbane's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mpho Sono was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 74 minutes into the match, Mamelodi Sundowns's goalkeeper Jikolo Thwala had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Brandon Sewele. In the 79th minute, Brandon Sewele left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The FC Zimbane fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3.
