Kingston Lekgwathi might have been able to make a better finish in the 4th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Henry Thebe. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Kingston Lekgwathi ran back to his position shaking his head. The supporters of FC Phoenix booed when Susterstroom was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nicolas Phakathi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Henry Thebe didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Nicolas Phakathi went, in the 15th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by John Pretorius during the 21st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 22 played minutes FC Phoenix got a freekick which was hit by John Pretorius. Nicolas Phakathi struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Henry Thebe didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Susterstroom. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind FC Phoenix's goalkeeper Henry Thebe, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Kingston Lekgwathi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nicolas Phakathi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. The wind increased when Nicolas Phakathi made the kick off in the second half. Nkosi Mafuna took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lazarus Takane, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. FC Phoenix's Henry Thebe played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nicolas Phakathi in the 61st minute of play. After 62 minutes, Aubrey Thobejane mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FC Phoenix and the Susterstroom players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 62nd match minute, FC Phoenix was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aubrey Thobejane to maneuver through the defense. Susterstroom's Nicolas Phakathi got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Kingston Lekgwathi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Henry Thebe having to interfere. Henry Thebe took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nicolas Phakathi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Aubrey Thobejane kicked well hit freekick during the 71st minute of the match. In the 74thth minute of the game Nicolas Phakathi who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FC Phoenix's Henry Thebe was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Lazarus Takane sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Nicolas Phakathi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 81st minute, Kingston Lekgwathi left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Susterstroom fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3. A collision led to Susterstroom getting a freekick after 89 minutes play. Noxolo Maduna hit a great ball. With a little luck, FC Phoenix's Henry Thebe got control of the ball when Kingston Lekgwathi tried to sneak it across the goal line. Susterstroom's Nkosi Mafuna played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gordon Konza in the 97th minute of play. Susterstroom played a much better game than FC Phoenix and deserved their victory. The FC Phoenix players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
