Ivan Takane kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. In the 13th minute of the match, Allan Macheke got a very nice opportunity to score, but Steve Mokatimi was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. 14 minutes into the game, Lindo Okpara was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Merinowelk's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave stellenbosh city the free kick. In the 14th match minute, Merinowelk was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lindo Okpara to maneuver through the defense. 16 minutes into the match, Merinowelk's goalkeeper Steve Mokatimi had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Allan Macheke. After a rather tough play, Merinowelk's Godfrey Macheke got a free kick in the 16th minute. If Sam Machete had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 19 minutes into the game, Allan Macheke cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Steve Mokatimi was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Allan Macheke could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 24th minute of the match, but Steve Mokatimi made a huge save. Steve Mokatimi stood somewhat misplaced when Sam Machete came free in front of goal and shot 3-0 to the left of him in the 25 minute. Fuzile Thebile received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Soloman Tembe tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sam Machete sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to Merinowelk getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Ivan Takane hit a great ball. Kenny Ngake was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 42nd played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Fuzile Thebile to strike the kick off in the second half. Lindo Okpara was shown his second yellow card after 53 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Allan Macheke sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Steve Mokatimi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sam Machete in the 60th minute of the match. In the 63rd minute, Sam Machete left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The stellenbosh city fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-0. 67 minutes into the match, stellenbosh city's Allan Macheke sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Steve Mokatimi narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Sam Machete scored 5-0 in the 71st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Steve Mokatimi, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 74 minutes, Jabu Mabalane mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the stellenbosh city and the Merinowelk players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 74 played minutes stellenbosh city got a freekick which was hit by Jabu Mabalane. Godfrey Macheke's late challenge caught a stellenbosh city's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Godfrey Macheke helped the player get up and apologised. In the 75th minute, Godfrey Macheke hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sam Machete fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Steve Mokatimi having to interfere. 87 minutes into the match, Merinowelk's goal looked a bit too open when Sam Machete came free, but Steve Mokatimi reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jabu Mabalane sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the referee ended the match the stellenbosh city players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
