Mzumbane's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Rob Sephiri was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. 9 minutes into the match, Mzumbane's goal looked a bit too open when Hlamane Madiba came free, but Freddie Mhlathe reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 10th match minute, Mzumbane was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lucky Serage to maneuver through the defense. Freddie Mhlathe took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rob Sephiri, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 17 minutes into the game, FC Johannesburg's Dane Kruger nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Freddie Mhlathe made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. Mzumbane's Freddie Mhlathe played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Silas Collins in the 20th minute of play. Rob Sephiri fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Freddie Mhlathe having to interfere. 27 minutes into the game, Silas Collins recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Freddie Mhlathe. Silas Collins showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 3-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Shumani Radebe in the 33rd minute of play forced FC Johannesburg's goalkeeper Árpád Mészáros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Silas Collins had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd rose to their feet as Dane Kruger kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Freddie Mhlathe. That made the score 4-0 in the 36 minute of play. Dane Kruger recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 39th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Godfrey Pretorius took the ball and in the 42 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Freddie Mhlathe. Freddie Mhlathe dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 5-0. 46 minutes into the match, Mzumbane's goal looked a bit too open when Hlamane Madiba came free, but Freddie Mhlathe reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 6-0.

The wind increased when Shumani Radebe made the kick off in the second half. Mzumbane's Freddie Mhlathe played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Godfrey Pretorius in the 53rd minute of play. 55 minutes into the match, Dane Kruger had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Freddie Mhlathe. Freddie Mhlathe was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Freddie Mhlathe tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The Mzumbane fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Freddie Mhlathe should have stopped the shot. FC Johannesburg's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
