FC Johannesburg's supporters crossed their fingers, but Godfrey Pretorius was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Nils-Emil Hermansson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Silas Collins, who was totally free with the ball in the 10th minute. Theuns's Nils-Emil Hermansson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dane Kruger in the 11th minute of play. A collision led to FC Johannesburg getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Harry King hit a great ball. In the 26th minute, Joseph Inguana hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Theuns's Vuyo Mayoyo got a free kick in the 27th minute. Nils-Emil Hermansson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rob Sephiri, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. But to his dismay, Rob Sephiri quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. After some careless play in the Theuns defense, Godfrey Pretorius kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nils-Emil Hermansson. The Theuns fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nils-Emil Hermansson should have stopped the shot. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rob Sephiri stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. FC Johannesburg's attentive Hlamane Madiba managed to snatch the ball when Thabile Arendse made a throw-in in the 52nd minute of the game. In the 54th match minute, Theuns was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hoadley Fredericks to maneuver through the defense. In the 62nd minute, Rob Khomane ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Árpád Mészáros was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. In the 79th match minute, Theuns was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hoadley Fredericks to maneuver through the defense. FC Johannesburg's Tristan Nunes was substituted for Olov Stål. After a defensive mix-up in Theuns's zone, Zane Blumenthal stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nils-Emil Hermansson came out of the goal and Zane Blumenthal tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rob Sephiri received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Nils-Emil Hermansson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Rob Sephiri came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the FC Johannesburg fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rob Sephiri couldn't finish the play.
