An unexpectedly hard shot by Tadij Zavec in the 8th minute of play forced Bayer Leverkusen's goalkeeper Sreta Gorše to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Irfan Ljubec fell near the penalty area in the 9th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Selnica ob Dravi's protests and gave Irfan Ljubec a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Selnica ob Dravi's Irfan Ljubec got a free kick in the 10th minute. Mirsad Pajk showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Naim Stanišič in the 12th minute of the match. In the last second Mirsad Pajk throw himself and got hold of the ball when Dorjan Budal in the 13thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. Bayer Leverkusen's Brendon Čepar managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Moreno Valentič in the 14 minute of the game. Brendon Čepar's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Mirsad Pajk read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 15th minute of play. After having played for 19 minutes, Naim Stanišič managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bayer Leverkusen's supporters crossed their fingers, but Naim Stanišič was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Selnica ob Dravi's Felix Vidic in the 23rd minute got a chance for a shot 23rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Bayer Leverkusen's supporters rose to their feet, but Juš Smodiš was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mirsad Pajk breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Juš Smodiš fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mirsad Pajk having to interfere. The supporters of Selnica ob Dravi booed when Bayer Leverkusen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jonathan Podbrežnik didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tadij Zavec fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sreta Gorše having to interfere. In the 35th match minute, Bayer Leverkusen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Zoran Levstek to maneuver through the defense. Jonathan Podbrežnik received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Mirsad Pajk tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 46 minutes, Dorjan Budal took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Mirsad Pajk to make any attempt to save it. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tadij Zavec was the one to do the kick off. Felix Vidic who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 53rdth minute tested the skills of Sreta Gorše when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 54th minute, Devin Marinč fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Brendon Čepar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mirsad Pajk having to interfere. Sreta Gorše showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tadij Zavec, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. Felix Vidic sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 66 minutes into the game, Dorjan Budal cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Mirsad Pajk was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Bayer Leverkusen's Juš Smodiš got a good chance for a goal in the 71st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Naim Stanišič blasted a shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Mirsad Pajk having to make a save. Enej Stermec kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. Felix Vidic's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Sreta Gorše firmly grabbed it by the left post. Bayer Leverkusen's Naim Stanišič got a good chance for a goal in the 81st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 91st minute of the match Bayer Leverkusen got a corner. Selnica ob Dravi's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Naim Stanišič ran over to the corner to take the kick. Dorjan Budal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mirsad Pajk having to interfere. Selnica ob Dravi's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
