When Nils-Emil Bagge came up free with the goalie in the 17th minute, the Liverpool FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nils-Emil Bagge couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Liverpool FC getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Melker Valrot hit a great ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Samuel Castleton during the 23rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 24th minute, Samuel Castleton hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 25 played minutes, IFK Marseille's Rikard Pilberg shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Mauro da Cunha came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in IFK Marseille reached it. Nils-Emil Bagge could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 30th minute of the match, but Benjamin Finman made a huge save. In the 34th match minute, IFK Marseille was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Karl-Magnus Kvarnström to maneuver through the defense. In the 36th minute Tage Flinck shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benjamin Finman saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Liverpool FC getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Gottfrid Fransson hit a great ball. If Vilgot Thidén had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 46 played minutes Liverpool FC got a freekick which was hit by Tage Flinck. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tage Flinck was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tage Flinck in the 53rd minute of play forced IFK Marseille's goalkeeper Benjamin Finman to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jonny Vennerberg struck a weak shot in the 54th minute. Benjamin Finman didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Liverpool FC. If Walter Påk had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Benjamin Finman made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tage Flinck in the 60th minute of play. 61 minutes into the match, Yngve Ek had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Mauro da Cunha. Liverpool FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Yngve Ek was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. In the 70th minute, Liverpool FC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Vilgot Thidén fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Georg Rosén kicked well hit freekick during the 76th minute of the match. In the 78thth minute of the game Vilgot Thidén who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Liverpool FC's Mauro da Cunha was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 85th minute, Svante Björkdahl hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Yngve Ek recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The IFK Marseille supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing IFK Marseille would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
