Helsingborgs IF's supporters crossed their fingers, but Emil Bäcklin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Brian Malmström fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without David Ambjörnsson having to interfere. David Ambjörnsson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jonatan Ekström in the 7th minute of the match. Kjell Hökqvist made a fantastic save in the 11th minute, when Allan Ödman sent off a good shot on target. David Ambjörnsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Adrian Sandberg in the 13th minute of play. Kjell Hökqvist was out of position in the 17 minute of play, and Oliver Queen capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Oliver Queen really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. Kjell Hökqvist showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Oliver Queen, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Helsingborgs IF's David Ambjörnsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adrian Sandberg in the 42nd minute of play. In the 47th minute Oliver Queen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kjell Hökqvist saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Oliver Queen made a kick off. 53 minutes into the match, Helsingborgs IF's Oliver Queen sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Kjell Hökqvist narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Kjell Hökqvist breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Södra Sunderbyn IFK players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
