Elof Wennerberg was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Jimmie Mattsson showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 8 minute of play. Fredrik Granberg sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Vårgårda IK booed when Kusmark IK was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bengt Nordlander didn't get a good kick on the ball. Vårgårda IK's Henric Lundqvist couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 21st minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Kusmark IK. In the 22nd minute, Folke Abrahamsson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Åke Sundin in the 24th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Philip Hård prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience was convinced that Åke Sundin's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Philip Hård was relentless in the 25th minute of the game. After 26 played minutes Kusmark IK got a freekick which was hit by Mark Åkesson. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jimmie Mattsson in the 31st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Elof Wennerberg saved Vårgårda IK from getting behind. When Folke Abrahamsson fell near the penalty area in the 35th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Kusmark IK's protests and gave Folke Abrahamsson a yellow card for diving instead. Tommy Paulin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Folke Abrahamsson got his second yellow card in the match during the 43rd minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. After a rather tough play, Kusmark IK's Folke Abrahamsson got a free kick in the 44th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Fredrik Granberg got free with Elof Wennerberg in the 47th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

After a defensive mix-up in Vårgårda IK's zone, Fredrik Granberg stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Elof Wennerberg came out of the goal and Fredrik Granberg tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Fredrik Granberg fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elof Wennerberg having to interfere. In the 57th minute Fredrik Granberg shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Elof Wennerberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 62 minutes, Tommy Lindmark mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Kusmark IK and the Vårgårda IK players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Kusmark IK's Tommy Lindmark got a free kick in the 62nd minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jimmie Mattsson in the 65th managed to get into a good position. Mark Åkesson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 85th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Nils Andreasson struck a weak shot in the 86th minute. Elof Wennerberg didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Kusmark IK. If Mark Åkesson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Fredrik Granberg during the 93rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card.
