The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Edwin Kullander struck a weak shot in the 3rd minute. Karl-Michael Örtendal didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Helgonagatan IF. When the match had gone on for 5 minutes, Edwin Kullander took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Karl-Michael Örtendal to make any attempt to save it. The supporters of Helgonagatan IF booed when Malmberget was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tony Vester didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jimmy Bremming took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tony Vester, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tony Vester received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Jimmy Bremming tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Malmberget's Bo Nyqvist got a good chance for a goal in the 28th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Edwin Kullander had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Bo Nyqvist sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jimmy Bremming showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tony Vester, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. In the 44th minute the ball was on its way in behind Helgonagatan IF's goalkeeper Jimmy Bremming, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Bo Nyqvist took the ball and in the 46 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jimmy Bremming. Jimmy Bremming dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Kevin Söderström fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Karl-Michael Örtendal having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edwin Kullander in the 67th minute of play forced Malmberget's goalkeeper Karl-Michael Örtendal to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 71 minutes into the match, Malmberget's Tony Vester sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jimmy Bremming narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Helgonagatan IF's zone, Bo Nyqvist stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jimmy Bremming came out of the goal and Bo Nyqvist tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 94 minutes, Kevin Söderström managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Helgonagatan IF's supporters crossed their fingers, but Kevin Söderström was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Malmberget's Karl-Michael Örtendal played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edwin Kullander in the 95th minute of play. The Malmberget supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Malmberget would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
