Dan Rosen ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 36th minute of the match Samuel Svanér sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Tobias Carlsson skillfully saved the ball. Gustaf Grönlund charged in rather forcefully in the 40th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Gustaf Grönlund the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Anfield Reds booed when Malmö FF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gustaf Grönlund didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Dan Rosen fell near the penalty area in the 44th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Malmö FF's protests and gave Dan Rosen a yellow card for diving instead. Dan Rosen hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Malmö FF's Roger Hedman got a free kick in the 47th minute.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ted Hybbert made a kick off. Gustaf Grönlund received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Artemio Mateo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Gustaf Grönlund had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Malmö FF's Örjan Jonsson pulled a muscle in his back after 75 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Malmö FF's Bo-Erik Olofsson was substituted for Örjan Jonsson. Malcolm Abrahamsson's late challenge caught a Malmö FF's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Malcolm Abrahamsson helped the player get up and apologised. Anfield Reds's Harry Sundström managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Pelle Wennerquist in the 81 minute of the game. The crowd rose to their feet as Ted Hybbert kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Tobias Carlsson. That made the score 0-2 in the 83 minute of play. 91 minutes into the game, Pelle Wennerquist was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Malmö FF's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Anfield Reds the free kick. After 91 played minutes Malmö FF got a freekick which was hit by Pelle Wennerquist. Arne Wikander hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. 97 minutes into the match, Ted Hybbert dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Tobias Carlsson, 0-4.
