FC Götze's supporters crossed their fingers, but Kevin Backman was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Kevin Backman scored 0-1 in the 20th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Karl Arenius, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kevin Backman in the 25th minute of play forced Newton Heath's goalkeeper Karl Arenius to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kevin Backman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Karl Arenius tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Kevin Backman struck a weak shot in the 42nd minute. Karl Arenius didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Götze. After a defensive mix-up in Newton Heath's zone, Kevin Backman stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Karl Arenius came out of the goal and Kevin Backman tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Arman Svartengren sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Newton Heath players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. FC Götze were winning 0-3.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Albin Löfgren to make the kick off. Karl Arenius made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Albin Löfgren in the 52nd minute of play. Karl Arenius showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Albin Löfgren, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. After 75 played minutes FC Götze got a freekick which was hit by Arman Svartengren. In the 77th minute, Albin Löfgren reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Karl Arenius. The goal made the score 0-5. Inge Lund fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dan Beneth having to interfere. In the 85th minute Albin Löfgren shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Karl Arenius saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 91st minute the ball was on its way in behind Newton Heath's goalkeeper Karl Arenius, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Karl Arenius showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Albin Löfgren in the 93rd minute of the match.
