The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Lennart Björklund received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Björn Gustafsson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 5th minute, Lennart Björklund got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After having played for 14 minutes, Allan Tomasson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Stegeborgs IF's supporters crossed their fingers, but Allan Tomasson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Ingvar Lindholm had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Allan Tomasson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. Holger Sander tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 22 played minutes Oviken IF got a freekick which was hit by Olof Eliasson. After a defensive mix-up in Oviken IF's zone, Allan Tomasson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Holger Sander came out of the goal and Allan Tomasson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Holger Sander made a fantastic save in the 27th minute, when Ingvar Lindholm sent off a good shot on target. In the 34th minute of the match Jarl Sandwall shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Björn Gustafsson showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Lennart Björklund might have been able to make a better finish in the 36th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Björn Gustafsson. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Lennart Björklund ran back to his position shaking his head. Lennart Björklund sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ingvar Lindholm recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 42nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Per Björklund fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Holger Sander having to interfere. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Olof Eliasson stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Björn Gustafsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Olof Eliasson in the 52nd minute of play. Oviken IF's Holger Sander played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Allan Tomasson in the 54th minute of play. In the 57th minute, Stegeborgs IF's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Lennart Björklund fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Olof Eliasson in the 59th minute of play forced Stegeborgs IF's goalkeeper Björn Gustafsson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Allan Tomasson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Stegeborgs IF's Pontus Lindström got a good chance for a goal in the 64th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Per-Arne Ahlberg kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. Stegeborgs IF's Allan Tomasson got a good chance for a goal in the 66th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Lennart Björklund had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Oviken IF booed when Stegeborgs IF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kasper Åkerström didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lennart Björklund who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 85thth minute tested the skills of Björn Gustafsson when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Holger Sander showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Allan Tomasson in the 88th minute of the match. If Ingvar Lindholm had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 92 minutes into the game, Elof Vase was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Oviken IF's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Stegeborgs IF the free kick. The supporters of Stegeborgs IF booed when Oviken IF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Elof Vase didn't get a good kick on the ball. Holger Sander didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ingvar Lindholm went, in the 96th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score.
