In the 4th minute, Stockholm City's Marcus Lindholm seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Marcus Lindholm the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Stockholm City protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Marcus Lindholm had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The referee gave Älvängen IFK a penalty, 6 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Karl-Magnus Berggren, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Stockholm City's Ralf Blom. 0-1. When Ulf Lindholm fell near the penalty area in the 15th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Älvängen IFK's protests and gave Ulf Lindholm a yellow card for diving instead. In the 15th minute, Ulf Lindholm hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Birger Löfgren had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 18 minutes into the match, Älvängen IFK's goalkeeper Christer Wiman had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Birger Löfgren. Ulf Lindholm recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 20th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 22 minutes into the match, Ulf Lindholm had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ralf Blom. Stockholm City's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ulf Lindholm was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. If Sune Wallin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Christer Wiman made a fantastic save in the 34th minute, when Birger Löfgren sent off a good shot on target. In the 34th minute, Birger Löfgren reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Christer Wiman. The goal made the score 1-2. Arne Hermansson struck a weak shot in the 42nd minute. Christer Wiman didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Stockholm City. A hard shot 44 in the game by Birger Löfgren from a close distance when the talented Christer Wiman managed to make a qualified save. Älvängen IFK's players were relieved. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Sune Wallin made a kick off. In the 52nd minute, Arne Hermansson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ulf Lindholm could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 61st minute of the match, but Ralf Blom made a huge save. Ulf Lindholm fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ralf Blom having to interfere. After 65 played minutes Stockholm City got a freekick which was hit by Mark Nykvist. Christer Wiman took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Birger Löfgren, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sune Wallin in the 75th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ralf Blom saved Stockholm City from getting behind. Birger Löfgren sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Stockholm City's supporters crossed their fingers, but Arne Hermansson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Birger Löfgren sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Birger Löfgren fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Christer Wiman having to interfere. Birger Löfgren took the ball and in the 91 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Christer Wiman. Christer Wiman dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. In the 96th minute, Ulf Lindholm got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
