Åmål IF's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Rikard Johansson was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Nils Nässén made an important save on a dangerous shot by Mattias Engman in the 17th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Kenneth Hellström during the 21st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Kenneth Hellström kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. Vidar Tingelholm sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Hakenäset FF's Olov Stenström got a free kick in the 24th minute. After 29 minutes, Sune Stenkvist mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Åmål IF and the Hakenäset FF players grew even worse after the yellow card. Sakarias Biörnberg's late challenge caught a Hakenäset FF's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sakarias Biörnberg helped the player get up and apologised. Sune Stenkvist hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. The supporters of Åmål IF booed when Hakenäset FF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vidar Tingelholm didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mattias Engman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nils Nässén having to interfere. After having played for 47 minutes, Kasper Odman managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hakenäset FF's supporters crossed their fingers, but Kasper Odman was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Vidar Tingelholm to make the kick off. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Mattias Mellberg in the 51st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Nils Nässén saved Hakenäset FF from getting behind. If Mattias Mellberg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 57 played minutes Åmål IF got a freekick which was hit by Sune Stenkvist. Åmål IF's Kurt Ahlbom proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 62nd minute of the match, managed to save Åmål IF from getting a goal against them. Mattias Mellberg received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Nils Nässén tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 77th minute Mattias Mellberg shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nils Nässén saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 78 minutes Hakenäset FF's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Kenneth Hellström who took care of the corner kick. Rikard Johansson could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 83rd minute of the match, but Kurt Ahlbom made a huge save. Åmål IF's Sakarias Biörnberg got his second yellow card of the match in the 84th minute. The referee ordered Sakarias Biörnberg off the ground. It seemed to be an obvious goal in the 85th minute, but Kurt Ahlbom got his fingers on the ball or the save, leaving Åmål IF hanging dry this time. In the 87th minute Vidar Tingelholm shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kurt Ahlbom saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Åmål IF's zone, Vidar Tingelholm stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Kurt Ahlbom came out of the goal and Vidar Tingelholm tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
