The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. August Stenkvist hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. In the 8th minute, Lenhovda's Jens-Ola Ivarsson ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind William Mellberg. William Mellberg yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. In the 14th minute, Stig-Åke Biörkquist left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Saltsjöbaden IF fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Stig-Åke Biörkquist in the 19th minute of play forced Lenhovda's goalkeeper Humberto Ostargi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 26th minute Stig-Åke Biörkquist shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Humberto Ostargi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Humberto Ostargi came out of the goal in the 26th minute to try and stop a shot by Saltsjöbaden IF's Stig-Åke Biörkquist. But to his dismay, Stig-Åke Biörkquist quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. Vinos Fino could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but William Mellberg made a huge save. In the 43rd minute, Greger Wickander left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Saltsjöbaden IF fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-4. William Mellberg made a fantastic save in the 47th minute, when Vinos Fino sent off a good shot on target. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-4 lead.

The wind increased when Stig-Åke Biörkquist made the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jens-Ola Ivarsson in the 51st minute of play forced Saltsjöbaden IF's goalkeeper William Mellberg to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Greger Wickander in the 53rd minute of play forced Lenhovda's goalkeeper Humberto Ostargi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Lenhovda getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Stig Björkdal hit a great ball. The referee felt a red card was in order, 56 minutes into the game, when Alf Ekerot put in a rough tackle. In a very dangerous position, a player in Lenhovda fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 55th minute. Penalty! The goalkeeper, Humberto Ostargi, was totally fooled by Saltsjöbaden IF's Pär Ahlrot, who 59 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Greger Wickander fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Humberto Ostargi having to interfere. Östen Stensson hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. 77 minutes had been played when some careless play by Lenhovda's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Pär Ahlrot was slow to take the kick. During this time Saltsjöbaden IF's players had a chance to rest. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Vinos Fino managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lenhovda's supporters rose to their feet, but Vinos Fino was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. William Mellberg breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thanks to some nice moves Stig-Åke Biörkquist could shoot a difficult shot in the 80th minute, which Humberto Ostargi however easily saved by the left post. If August Stenkvist had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Stig Björkdal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without William Mellberg having to interfere. Pär Ahlrot sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. William Mellberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from August Stenkvist, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. 95 minutes into the match, Stig-Åke Biörkquist had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Humberto Ostargi. Lenhovda's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Stig-Åke Biörkquist was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-6. In the 98th match minute, Lenhovda was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Stig Björkdal to maneuver through the defense. Humberto Ostargi acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 99th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Pär Ahlrot. Saltsjöbaden IF played a much better game than Lenhovda and deserved their victory. The Lenhovda players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
