The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Sven-Ove Fredriksson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jörgen Lundhberg having to interfere. In the 7th minute Hans Skålberg shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Allan Arenstedt saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jens-Ove Lindström received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Jörgen Lundhberg tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Charlie Hellkvist hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. In the 20th minute, Stig-Åke Hagberg hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 22 minutes, Charlie Hellkvist mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Djurgårdens IF and the FC Giroud players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 23rdth minute of the game Sigvard Tunström who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Djurgårdens IF's Jörgen Lundhberg was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Charlie Hellkvist fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Allan Arenstedt having to interfere. A hard shot 28 in the game by Sigvard Tunström from a close distance when the talented Jörgen Lundhberg managed to make a qualified save. Djurgårdens IF's players were relieved. An unexpectedly hard shot by Charlie Hellkvist in the 29th minute of play forced FC Giroud's goalkeeper Allan Arenstedt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 33 minutes of play Djurgårdens IF's Charlie Hellkvist was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 34th minute, Charlie Hellkvist hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Sigvard Tunström had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. André Martinsson hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. Hans Skålberg scored 0-1 in the 46th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Allan Arenstedt, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Sigvard Tunström to make the kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Sigvard Tunström in the 53rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jörgen Lundhberg prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience was convinced that Sigvard Tunström's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jörgen Lundhberg was relentless in the 54th minute of the game. Jörgen Lundhberg stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Sigvard Tunström's shot from short distance in the 56th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Sigvard Tunström in the 59th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jörgen Lundhberg prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 65 minutes into the game, Stig-Åke Hagberg was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Djurgårdens IF's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Giroud the free kick. Jörgen Lundhberg showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sigvard Tunström in the 78th minute of the match. In the 91st play minute Hans Skålberg came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Allan Arenstedt. 0-2. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Sigvard Tunström in the 97th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jörgen Lundhberg prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The Djurgårdens IF supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Djurgårdens IF would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
