After 3 played minutes Goteborg got a freekick which was hit by Elof Sandwall. Elof Sandwall received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Sven-Erik Alefors tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 13th minute Åke Öman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nils-Erik Odén saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 22nd minute, Karl-Magnus Hedman reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Sven-Erik Alefors. The goal made the score 1-1. Gottfrid Svensson hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. After 29 minutes of play, Vetlanda's Ingmar Rolandsson made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Nils-Erik Odén was left in no man's land by his defense there! Robin Wahlström received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Nils-Erik Odén showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Åke Öman, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. After a defensive mix-up in Goteborg's zone, Gottfrid Svensson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nils-Erik Odén came out of the goal and Gottfrid Svensson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Goteborg's Nils-Erik Odén played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gottfrid Svensson in the 44th minute of play. Nils-Erik Odén took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Oskar Hjeltman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Disappointed in the 1-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Karl-Magnus Hedman made the kick off in the second half. Nils-Erik Odén made a fantastic save in the 52nd minute, when Ingmar Rolandsson sent off a good shot on target. After 56 minutes, Ingmar Rolandsson mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Vetlanda and the Goteborg players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 57th minute of the match Karl-Magnus Hedman shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Sven-Erik Alefors showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. If Evert Hedström had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Åke Öman struck a weak shot in the 62nd minute. Nils-Erik Odén didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Vetlanda. In the 63rd minute of the match, Åke Öman tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Nils-Erik Odén saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Vetlanda's Sven-Erik Alefors played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Karl-Magnus Hedman in the 65th minute of play. Nils-Erik Odén showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Åke Öman in the 69th minute of the match. Nils-Erik Odén made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Åke Öman in the 71st minute of play. In the 73rd minute of the match, Ingmar Rolandsson tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Nils-Erik Odén saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Nils-Erik Odén made a fantastic save in the 77th minute, when Oskar Hjeltman sent off a good shot on target. When Elof Sandwall fell near the penalty area in the 78th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Goteborg's protests and gave Elof Sandwall a yellow card for diving instead. When Karl-Magnus Hedman came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the Goteborg fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Karl-Magnus Hedman couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 95th minute, Robin Wahlström managed to get in a good position for a shot. Goteborg's supporters rose to their feet, but Robin Wahlström was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sven-Erik Alefors breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Vetlanda walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
