The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Björn Lindström during the 11th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Jörgen Malmström made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Olov Ekberg in the 17th minute of play. After 19 played minutes Gysinge got a freekick which was hit by Olov Ekberg. In the 23rd minute, Olov Ekberg ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jörgen Malmström was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Emanuel Hagberg charged in rather forcefully in the 29th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Emanuel Hagberg the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Emanuel Hagberg hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. The audience was convinced that Olov Ekberg's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jörgen Malmström was relentless in the 32nd minute of the game. After 34 played minutes Gysinge got a freekick which was hit by Nils-Erik Strand. 36 minutes into the match, Allan Jönsson had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Gunnar Lundhberg. Gysinge's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Allan Jönsson was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. In the 40th minute Olov Ekberg shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jörgen Malmström saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

In the 52nd minute, Kenny Lindholm hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 56th minute, Olov Ekberg reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Jörgen Malmström. The goal made the score 1-2. Olov Ekberg's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 59thth minute, Jörgen Malmström skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Sten Tomasson struck a weak shot in the 63rd minute. Gunnar Lundhberg didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bo Hammarberg in the 72nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gunnar Lundhberg prevented the ball from getting in the gole. A collision led to Gysinge getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Tony Klementsson hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Gysinge's zone, Bo Hammarberg stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gunnar Lundhberg came out of the goal and Bo Hammarberg tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 83 minutes into the match, Gysinge's goal looked a bit too open when Per-Arne Bröms came free, but Gunnar Lundhberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Gysinge had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
