In the 12th minute, one of RealMadrid:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for RealMadrid. An unexpectedly hard shot by Markus Arenberg in the 18th minute of play forced RealMadrid's goalkeeper Dick Dahlbom to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 20 minutes into the match, RealMadrid's goal looked a bit too open when Charlie Östlund came free, but Dick Dahlbom reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Disappointed in the 0-4 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Charlie Östlund made a kick off. RealMadrid's Josef Ekeroth quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Göran Vennerlund, made in the 51st minute of the game. Dick Dahlbom took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Olov Jansson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dick Dahlbom didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Lennart Jernberg went, in the 57th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-5 was the resulting score. Mårten Backman didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Zebastian Hammarbäck went, in the 64th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-5 was the resulting score. After some careless play in the RealMadrid defense, Lennart Jernberg kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dick Dahlbom. The RealMadrid fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dick Dahlbom should have stopped the shot. Markus Arenberg recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 77th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Dick Dahlbom made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Markus Arenberg in the 79th minute of play. RealMadrid's Dick Dahlbom proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 82nd minute of the match, managed to save RealMadrid from getting a goal against them.
