Uno Wennerberg stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jerry Sandwall's shot from short distance in the 6th minute. 14 minutes into the game, Club Deportivo Canarias's Manfred Hjeltman nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Joseph Haglund tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 20th minute Manfred Hjeltman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Uno Wennerberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 24th minute of the match Club Deportivo Canarias got a corner. Young boys's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Per-Oskar Åkerman ran over to the corner to take the kick. The goalkeeper smacked the ball away after a great corner, but Pär Lindgren advanced and headed the ball into goal, 0-2 in the 24th minute. Michael Waller hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. Joseph Haglund made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fernando Txatxu in the 30th minute of play. 32 minutes into the match, Young boys's goal looked a bit too open when Jerry Sandwall came free, but Uno Wennerberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Joseph Haglund showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Birger Axelsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. In the 39th minute Birger Axelsson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joseph Haglund saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 41 minutes into the match, Young boys's goal looked a bit too open when Jerry Sandwall came free, but Uno Wennerberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Uno Wennerberg made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Per-Oskar Åkerman in the 45th minute of play. Fernando Txatxu received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Joseph Haglund came out and tried to block the shot, but Fernando Txatxu slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 48th minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Fernando Txatxu to make the kick off. In the 55th minute, Fernando Txatxu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 64 played minutes Club Deportivo Canarias got a freekick which was hit by Michael Waller. In the 65th minute, Fernando Txatxu left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Young boys fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. Uno Wennerberg didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jerry Sandwall went, in the 69th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-3 was the resulting score. If Jerry Sandwall had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Club Deportivo Canarias's Pär Lindgren got a good chance for a goal in the 80th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Joseph Haglund showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Birger Axelsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. Pär Lindgren hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. The crowd rose to their feet as Jerry Sandwall kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Uno Wennerberg. That made the score 2-5 in the 89 minute of play. 92 minutes into the game, Club Deportivo Canarias's Jerry Sandwall nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot.
