The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Ziemowit Tusk showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. When Jerzy Sniegowski came up free with the goalie in the 12th minute, the Korablew fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jerzy Sniegowski couldn't finish the play. The crowd rose to their feet as Giesen's Tanek Kordalewski slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Norbert Wojton. That made the score 1-0 after 14 minutes of play. After a defensive mix-up in Korablew's zone, Roland Kiewra stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Norbert Wojton came out of the goal and Roland Kiewra tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Roland Kiewra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 28 minutes, Zbyszko Plucinik managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Korablew's supporters crossed their fingers, but Zbyszko Plucinik was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some careless play in the Giesen defense, Jerzy Sniegowski kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ziemowit Tusk. The Giesen fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ziemowit Tusk should have stopped the shot. Norbert Wojton made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Roland Kiewra in the 32nd minute of play. After a rather tough play, Giesen's Bogdan Ludwa got a free kick in the 36th minute. Jerzy Sniegowski received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Ziemowit Tusk tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Krzysztof Duda had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jerzy Sniegowski to make the kick off. With a little luck, Giesen's Ziemowit Tusk got control of the ball when Zbyszko Plucinik tried to sneak it across the goal line.
