The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A sloppy throw-in by Zenon Nowak in the 5th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Górnik Zabrze's Antoni Majkowski. In the 7th minute Herbert Jajecznica shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zachariasz Osikowicz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Zachariasz Osikowicz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Herbert Jajecznica in the 9th minute. In the 12th minute, Górnik Zabrze's Herbert Jajecznica ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Zachariasz Osikowicz. Zachariasz Osikowicz was left in no man's land by his defense there! 30 minutes into the game, Avgust Garov was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Kosynierzy FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Górnik Zabrze the free kick. After 30 played minutes Kosynierzy FC got a freekick which was hit by Avgust Garov. With an all-out effort, Górnik Zabrze's Zachariasz Osikowicz threw himself towards the right post 32 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Herbert Jajecznica, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Zachariasz Osikowicz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Herbert Jajecznica, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. Górnik Zabrze's Eugeniusz Kluska was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Zachariasz Osikowicz in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Waclaw Topolski charged in rather forcefully in the 41st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Waclaw Topolski the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. 42 minutes into the match, Ulryk Jucha notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Górnik Zabrze's Leonard Dres. Leonard Dres was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Zachariasz Osikowicz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Herbert Jajecznica in the 46th minute of play. A collision led to Kosynierzy FC getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Zbyszek Rzeszutek hit a great ball. The long shot by Eugeniusz Kluska in the 48th minute really tested Zachariasz Osikowicz's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The supporters of Górnik Zabrze booed when Kosynierzy FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mikolaj Tomiczek didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Herbert Jajecznica in the 55th minute of play forced Kosynierzy FC's goalkeeper Zachariasz Osikowicz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Herbert Jajecznica blasted a shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Zachariasz Osikowicz having to make a save. Zdzislaw Kaczucha recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 73rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 85th minute the ball was on its way in behind Kosynierzy FC's goalkeeper Zachariasz Osikowicz, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Herbert Jajecznica in the 86th minute of play forced Kosynierzy FC's goalkeeper Zachariasz Osikowicz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Emil Lenertej kicked well hit freekick during the 89th minute of the match.
