Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Stian Samuelsen in the 18th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jim Digre prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of Newton Heath booed when FC Alutis was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Odd-Eirik Walberg didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 21st minute of the match Kai-Arne Saur sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jim Digre skillfully saved the ball. Truls Sandstad's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Christoffer Gabrielsen read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 24th minute of play. When Krister Olaisen fell near the penalty area in the 29th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC Alutis's protests and gave Krister Olaisen a yellow card for diving instead. Åsmund Johannesen hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 38th minute, Roger Vigre managed to get in a good position for a shot. Newton Heath's supporters rose to their feet, but Roger Vigre was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jim Digre breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 41st minute Stian Samuelsen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jim Digre saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Truls Sandstad to make the kick off. Jim Digre made a fantastic save in the 84th minute, when Roger Vigre sent off a good shot on target. In the 89th minute the ball was on its way in behind FC Alutis's goalkeeper Jim Digre, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 90th minute of the match, Roger Vigre got a very nice opportunity to score, but Jim Digre was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Roger Vigre fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jim Digre having to interfere.
