Seating: 1716, VIP seats: 149) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Nick Bartels started the match with the kick off. In the 3rdth minute of the game Sjef Soer who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Blerick's Geert Ronde was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Mark Boven kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. Zutphen FC's Nick Bartels got a good chance for a goal in the 9th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 10 played minutes Blerick got a freekick which was hit by Wilco Windmuller. In the 25th minute the ball was on its way in behind Blerick's goalkeeper Geert Ronde, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Blerick's Harm Pool got a good chance for a goal in the 26th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Geert Ronde took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nick Bartels, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Sjef Soer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Roland Genkenaar showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Harm Pool, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Michael Buskes got free with Roland Genkenaar in the 40th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 42 minutes, Jelte Sans mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Zutphen FC and the Blerick players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 42nd minute of the game. One of Zutphen FC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Blerick:s goal. If Sjef Soer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.
After 51 played minutes Zutphen FC got a freekick which was hit by Otto Daalmeyer. Erwin Dongen charged in rather forcefully in the 55th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Erwin Dongen the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Zutphen FC booed when Blerick was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Erwin Dongen didn't get a good kick on the ball. Blerick's Michael Buskes got a good chance for a goal in the 59th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Henry Helwig during the 62nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 62nd minute, Henry Helwig hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 69thth minute of the game Sjef Soer who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Blerick's Geert Ronde was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Jhon Hofmeester hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. Sjef Soer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Geert Ronde having to interfere. If Harm Pool had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 85th match minute, Zutphen FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jhon Hofmeester to maneuver through the defense. Nick Bartels fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Geert Ronde having to interfere. If Sjef Soer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Zutphen FC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
