Jeffrey Fikkers fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jim van Zeggeren having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet as Ajax FC's Hans Staal slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Jim van Zeggeren. That made the score 1-0 after 33 minutes of play. Maurice Westerhof fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wim Koeling having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Ajax FC's zone, Maurice Westerhof stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wim Koeling came out of the goal and Maurice Westerhof tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 42nd minute, Sjors Zadelhoff got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Leuven's Sjors Zadelhoff in the 44th minute got a chance for a shot 44th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Ajax FC's goalie prevented a goal. 46 minutes into the match, Ajax FC's Hans Staal sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jim van Zeggeren narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 48th match minute, Ajax FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jan Doren to maneuver through the defense.

Ajax FC's Hans Staal got a good chance for a goal in the 55th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Wim Koeling made a fantastic save in the 58th minute, when Maurice Westerhof sent off a good shot on target. Wim Koeling took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sjors Zadelhoff, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sjors Zadelhoff sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience thought a goal was coming when Maurice Westerhof got free with Wim Koeling in the 66th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With a little luck, Ajax FC's Wim Koeling got control of the ball when Maurice Westerhof tried to sneak it across the goal line. 77 minutes into the match, Jeffrey Fikkers had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jim van Zeggeren. Leuven's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jeffrey Fikkers was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. Sjors Zadelhoff recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 82nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Richard van Rooijen during the 84th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 84th match minute, Ajax FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Richard van Rooijen to maneuver through the defense. A hard shot by Frans de Rudder from long distance, 85 minutes into the match, got Wim Koeling's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Leuven had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
