The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience thought a goal was coming when Edwin Baptist got free with Wilfred Schuttrup in the 22nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Wilfred Schuttrup acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 34th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Kees Bosma. When the match had gone on for 39 minutes, Sipke Roelfs took a quick shot and it went in 3-0 without a chance for Wilfred Schuttrup to make any attempt to save it. Emil Famelen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jochem Roewen having to interfere.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Serge Schulte to make the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 57th minute, Jordy Ottens managed to get in a good position for a shot. Melik SV's supporters rose to their feet, but Jordy Ottens was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jochem Roewen breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
