Mathias Zoethout received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Antoon Reinhard tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 36th minute, Mathias Zoethout fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Antoon Reinhard, passed just outside the right post. Antoon Reinhard had great luck who in the 38thth minute grab hold of the ball when Mathias Zoethout from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. Antoon Reinhard took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mathias Zoethout, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Theo Zonneveld came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Giesendam fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Theo Zonneveld couldn't finish the play. In the 98th minute, Theo Zonneveld got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The fc groningen supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing fc groningen would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
