Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Coenraad Overdiep started the match with the kick off. After a rather tough play, van Basten's Jaap Gronden got a free kick in the 6th minute. In the 10th play minute Henry Kosterman came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Theo de Mol. 1-0. 15 minutes into the game, Mathieu Evans cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Jhon Holst was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After some careless play in the van Basten defense, Coenraad Overdiep kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Theo de Mol. The van Basten fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Theo de Mol should have stopped the shot. Stepekolk FC's Coenraad Overdiep got a good chance for a goal in the 31st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Franck Zegwaard fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Theo de Mol having to interfere. Jhon Holst took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Douwe Schimmel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Stepekolk FC's Jhon Holst played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mathieu Evans in the 42nd minute of play. After having played for 44 minutes, Mathieu Evans managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. van Basten's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mathieu Evans was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Douwe Schimmel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Af the end of the first half the score was 4-2. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Franck Zegwaard in the 54th minute of play forced van Basten's goalkeeper Theo de Mol to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 59 played minutes van Basten got a freekick which was hit by Pim Stigt. Theo de Mol showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Franck Zegwaard in the 63rd minute of the match. In the 71st minute, Mathieu Evans got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. With a little luck, Stepekolk FC's Jhon Holst got control of the ball when Douwe Schimmel tried to sneak it across the goal line. 76 minutes into the match, Stepekolk FC's goalkeeper Jhon Holst had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Douwe Schimmel. Theo de Mol came out of the goal in the 78th minute to try and stop a shot by Stepekolk FC's Franck Zegwaard. But to his dismay, Franck Zegwaard quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 5-2. Theo de Mol made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Coenraad Overdiep in the 84th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Coenraad Overdiep in the 86th minute of play forced van Basten's goalkeeper Theo de Mol to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 87th minute, Henry Kosterman hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Mark Merenga got free with Jhon Holst in the 90th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 96th match minute, van Basten was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mark Merenga to maneuver through the defense. For all the effort they put into the match, the van Basten players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Stepekolk FC.
