Tim Wagemakers recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 8th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, Vitesse's Henk Blanker got a free kick in the 9th minute. 11 minutes into the match, Jelle Schut had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Abraham Dekker. Vitesse's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jelle Schut was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gerard Rieks in the 14th minute of play forced Zoelmond RKSV's goalkeeper Pierre Dussel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jelle Schut struck a weak shot in the 16th minute. Abraham Dekker didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Zoelmond RKSV. In the 18th minute Jelle Schut shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Abraham Dekker saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tim Wagemakers sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Through an outstanding action, after 24 minutes, Pierre Dussel successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jelle Schut in the 27th minute of play forced Vitesse's goalkeeper Abraham Dekker to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 29th minute, Jelle Schut left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. Pierre Dussel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gerard Rieks in the 45th minute of the match. In the 47th minute Gerard Rieks shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pierre Dussel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-3 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tim Wagemakers to make the kick off. Tim Wagemakers received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 51st minute. Abraham Dekker tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Zoelmond RKSV's Pierre Dussel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abraham ter Averst in the 62nd minute of play. Abraham ter Averst sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Henry van Dongen managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vitesse's supporters rose to their feet, but Henry van Dongen was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Pierre Dussel breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Gerard Rieks came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the Vitesse fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gerard Rieks couldn't finish the play. In the 85th minute, one of Vitesse:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Vitesse.
