The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Laurens Zimmer kicked well hit freekick during the 2nd minute of the match. FC Strijp's Jan-Willem Nedergaard got a good chance for a goal in the 5th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Through an outstanding action, after 6 minutes, Demy Rodenboog successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. If Bennie Visscher had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Fred Zevenhuizen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jacco Klerk in the 17th minute of play. Jan-Willem Nedergaard sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 27th minute, Lex Strobos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 28 minutes into the match, Bennie Visscher notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of FC Strijp's Fred Zevenhuizen. Fred Zevenhuizen was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Jan-Willem Nedergaard blasted a shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Demy Rodenboog having to make a save. In the 41st minute, Bennie Visscher made a precise shot to the right of Fred Zevenhuizen. FC Strijp's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. In the 48th minute Bennie Visscher shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fred Zevenhuizen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Jacco Klerk was the one to do the kick off. 52 minutes into the game, Raymond Roordink was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Strijp's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave IJmuiden the free kick. 53 minutes into the match, FC Strijp's goal looked a bit too open when Bennie Visscher came free, but Fred Zevenhuizen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jacco Klerk sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Bennie Visscher in the 59thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Fred Zevenhuizen, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Jacco Klerk sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Lex Strobos fell near the penalty area in the 73rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC Strijp's protests and gave Lex Strobos a yellow card for diving instead. In the 73rd match minute, FC Strijp was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lex Strobos to maneuver through the defense. In the 77th minute, Bennie Visscher ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Fred Zevenhuizen was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-4. In the 81st minute of the match Harris Schol sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Demy Rodenboog skillfully saved the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jacco Klerk in the 86th minute of play forced FC Strijp's goalkeeper Fred Zevenhuizen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Twan Venema's late challenge caught a FC Strijp's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Twan Venema helped the player get up and apologised. 97 minutes into the game, Rein Tinselboer recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Fred Zevenhuizen. Rein Tinselboer showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-5. IJmuiden's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
