The long shot by Izaak Mülder in the 31st minute really tested Falco Hanekamp's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. After a defensive mix-up in Algarvistan FC's zone, Yuri Sturkenboom stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Falco Hanekamp came out of the goal and Yuri Sturkenboom tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Yuri Sturkenboom fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Falco Hanekamp having to interfere. Gooitzen van der Leegte recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Jan Savenije sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 44 minutes into the game, Robert Reitsma cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Thomas Meier was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

With a little luck, AFC Ajax Amsterdam's Thomas Meier got control of the ball when Robert Reitsma tried to sneak it across the goal line.
