The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

Timo Riemers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Simon van Zeist, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. After a defensive mix-up in Sappemeer's zone, Roger Willems stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wessel Severijnse came out of the goal and Roger Willems tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Sappemeer's Wessel Severijnse played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Niels-Jan Tonnis in the 96th minute of play. The VV Roden manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Sappemeer to win.
