Ruben Robben was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Damien Koopmans came up free with the goalie in the 24th minute, the Rotterdam Lions fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Damien Koopmans couldn't finish the play. Ramon de Putter kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. After 29 played minutes SC Varsseveld got a freekick which was hit by Jens Cohen. Ruben Robben showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gido van Veldhuizen in the 41st minute of the match. Wilco Breugel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. SC Varsseveld's Pepijn Tanis got a good chance for a goal in the 46th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 47 minutes into the game, one of Rotterdam Lions:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gido van Veldhuizen to make the kick off. If Pepijn Tanis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Rotterdam Lions booed when SC Varsseveld was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jens Cohen didn't get a good kick on the ball. Damien Koopmans received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Ruben Robben tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Rotterdam Lions's Abraham Sibon got a free kick in the 83rd minute. In the 87th minute Gido van Veldhuizen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ruben Robben saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Damien Koopmans had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gido van Veldhuizen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ruben Robben stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gido van Veldhuizen's shot from short distance in the 92nd minute. When the final whistle sounded Rotterdam Lions left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than SC Varsseveld.
