The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Ruud van Gessel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ruud Waterman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ruud van Gessel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sipke Pierewaaijer, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. Ruud Waterman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ruud van Gessel having to interfere. In the 25th minute Sipke Pierewaaijer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ruud van Gessel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ruud van Gessel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sipke Pierewaaijer in the 27th minute of the match. In the 29th play minute Jim Heuvel came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Robin Ebbinge. 1-1. In the 34thth minute of the game Sipke Pierewaaijer who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FC Gelsenkirchen 04's Ruud van Gessel was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 35th match minute, FC Gelsenkirchen 04 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rien Hulscher to maneuver through the defense. Ruud Waterman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ruud van Gessel having to interfere. Jim Heuvel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Arjan Berendt stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ruud van Gessel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ruud Waterman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. FC Gelsenkirchen 04's Ruud van Gessel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ruud Waterman in the 55th minute of play. Thijs Som hit a great freekick 57 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Jim Heuvel managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Gelsenkirchen 04's supporters rose to their feet, but Jim Heuvel was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Robin Ebbinge breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Sipke Pierewaaijer recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ruud van Gessel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ruud Waterman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ruud van Gessel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sipke Pierewaaijer in the 70th minute. 72 minutes into the match, FC Gelsenkirchen 04's goal looked a bit too open when Ruud Waterman came free, but Ruud van Gessel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 73rd minute of the match Ridderbuurt HC got a corner. FC Gelsenkirchen 04's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Pascal Windmuller ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led Ridderbuurt HC's Pascal Windmuller to fire away a dangerous shot which Ruud van Gessel despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 75th minute Arjan Berendt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Robin Ebbinge saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Sjoerd Schrage fell near the penalty area in the 77th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ridderbuurt HC's protests and gave Sjoerd Schrage a yellow card for diving instead. Sjoerd Schrage kicked well hit freekick during the 77th minute of the match. After recieving a nice pass, FC Gelsenkirchen 04's Hans-Cees Griemink tried to score from far away in the 78th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. In the 85th minute of the match, Sipke Pierewaaijer got a very nice opportunity to score, but Ruud van Gessel was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. After some careless play in the FC Gelsenkirchen 04 defense, Sjoerd Schrage kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ruud van Gessel. The FC Gelsenkirchen 04 fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ruud van Gessel should have stopped the shot. 91 minutes into the match, FC Gelsenkirchen 04's goalkeeper Ruud van Gessel had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Sipke Pierewaaijer. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ruud Waterman in the 92nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ruud van Gessel saved FC Gelsenkirchen 04 from getting behind. Ruud van Gessel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ruud Waterman, who was totally free with the ball in the 96th minute. Ridderbuurt HC's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
