Steenoven's supporters crossed their fingers, but Roland Lambers was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Steenoven's zone, Karsten van den Eede stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Martien de Jong came out of the goal and Karsten van den Eede tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Loet Excelsior's Hub Weken got a free kick in the 21st minute. Steenoven's Roland Lambers got a good chance for a goal in the 23rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 34th minute, Pim Stroeve left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Steenoven fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Pim Stroeve sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Roland Lambers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hugo Ottenhof charged in rather forcefully in the 41st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Hugo Ottenhof the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. If Julius Mulder had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Reinhard van der Stoel stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Roland Lambers's shot from short distance in the 77th minute.
