After some fancy dribbling in the 47th minute, Dirk-Jan Ieberts managed to get in a good position for a shot. Rotbrink's supporters rose to their feet, but Dirk-Jan Ieberts was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tommie de Vlieger breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Gerrit Bosma made the kick off in the second half. After 80 played minutes Doetinchem Excelsior got a freekick which was hit by Jan-Peter van den Hoogen. A hard shot 81 in the game by Chris Carels from a close distance when the talented Tommie de Vlieger managed to make a qualified save. Doetinchem Excelsior's players were relieved. Rotbrink were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
