The audience was convinced that Boudewijn Middeljans's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rien Roelofs was relentless in the 21st minute of the game. Gerald Muskee was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. If Ton Westerhof had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When Dick van Rijswijk came up free with the goalie in the 58th minute, the Chivas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dick van Rijswijk couldn't finish the play. In the 60th minute the ball was on its way in behind S C Almere's goalkeeper Rien Roelofs, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Rien Roelofs was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 63rd minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Coenraad Heije. In the 67th minute Hette Heebels shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gerald Muskee saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jan Brouwers's late challenge caught a S C Almere's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jan Brouwers helped the player get up and apologised. Jan Brouwers kicked well hit freekick during the 76th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in S C Almere's zone, Boudewijn Middeljans stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rien Roelofs came out of the goal and Boudewijn Middeljans tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rien Roelofs made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dick van Rijswijk in the 82nd minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ton Westerhof during the 82nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 83rd minute, Ton Westerhof hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rien Roelofs made a fantastic save in the 87th minute, when Boudewijn Middeljans sent off a good shot on target. In the 88th minute the ball was on its way in behind S C Almere's goalkeeper Rien Roelofs, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Boudewijn Middeljans could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 94th minute of the match, but Rien Roelofs made a huge save. In the 96th minute, Maurice de Coninck made a precise shot to the right of Gerald Muskee. Chivas's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. S C Almere's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
