In the 10th minute Bart Arends shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hub van Zeggeren saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 18th minute, the referee gave FC Fortonia a penalty. Jelle Kauffeld looked confident and blasted the ball into goal by the left post, totally unstoppable for Boudewijn Enzing. The supporters of FC Fortonia booed when Oosterwierum Excelsior was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Harmen Ensing didn't get a good kick on the ball. FC Fortonia's Rik Asselbergs managed to work through Oosterwierum Excelsior's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Rik Asselbergs dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. Gio van der Leegte could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 24th minute of the match, but Boudewijn Enzing made a huge save. After having played for 28 minutes, Gio van der Leegte managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Fortonia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gio van der Leegte was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 30th minute, Rik Asselbergs got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Boudewijn Enzing made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rik Asselbergs in the 34th minute of play. Gert Bennink received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. In the 58th minute the ball was on its way in behind FC Fortonia's goalkeeper Hub van Zeggeren, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Rik Asselbergs recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 63rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Gert Bennink who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 66thth minute tested the skills of Hub van Zeggeren when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The audience was convinced that Huub Mol's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Hub van Zeggeren was relentless in the 69th minute of the game.
