The supporters of Oppenhuizen booed when Brunsting was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dries van der Weerden didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ed Haydon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kurt Harmsen having to interfere. Kurt Harmsen didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Oppenhuizen. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jonathan Panter got free with Kurt Harmsen in the 74th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Kurt Harmsen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eric Wielens in the 75th minute of the match. In the 79th minute Demy Brunt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilfried Landzaat saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Kurt Harmsen made an important save on a dangerous shot by Evert van Zomeren in the 82nd minute. After a rather tough play, Oppenhuizen's Eric Wielens got a free kick in the 83rd minute. After having played for 87 minutes, Evert van Zomeren managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Oppenhuizen's supporters crossed their fingers, but Evert van Zomeren was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
