Watergang HC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 32nd minute, when Benjamin Overmars scored to the left of an out of position Luc Cales, making the score, 2-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Niek Ter in the 36th minute of play forced Hey FC's goalkeeper Daan Smid to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Daan Smid made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Han Steffens in the 39th minute of play. 43 minutes into the match, Hey FC's goal looked a bit too open when Niek Ter came free, but Daan Smid reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Benjamin Overmars kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Niek Ter stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luc Cales took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arnold Kok, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Hey FC defense, Gerrit Hoving kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Daan Smid. The Hey FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Daan Smid should have stopped the shot. In the 61stth minute of the game Gerrit Hoving who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Hey FC's Daan Smid was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 66 played minutes, Watergang HC's Nico-Jan Keupink shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Daan Smid came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Watergang HC reached it. Han Steffens recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 69th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 70 minutes into the match, Hey FC's goal looked a bit too open when Pierre Boeve came free, but Daan Smid reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Niek Ter's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Daan Smid was relentless in the 71st minute of the game.
