Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) ajax's Martin van Gessel started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Diderik Eefting was out of position in the 4 minute of play, and Martin van Gessel capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Martin van Gessel really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Martin van Gessel in the 9th minute of play forced Overhaelen's goalkeeper Diderik Eefting to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hendrik Scheffer recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 19 minutes into the match, ajax's goal looked a bit too open when Frans Schuurmans came free, but Ronald Velthuis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 21 minutes of play, ajax's Peter Driel made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Diderik Eefting was left in no man's land by his defense there! Diderik Eefting showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Martin van Gessel in the 27th minute of the match. Peter Driel scored 4-0 in the 32nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Diderik Eefting, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Martin van Gessel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 41 minutes into the match, ajax's goal looked a bit too open when Hendrik Scheffer came free, but Ronald Velthuis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 47 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Overhaelen! No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 5-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Frans Schuurmans stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Martin van Gessel struck a weak shot in the 55th minute. Diderik Eefting didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for ajax. Overhaelen's Diderik Eefting played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Karsten van Ankeren in the 62nd minute of play. Diderik Eefting stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Peter Driel's shot from short distance in the 63rd minute. After 66 minutes, Karsten van Ankeren mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the ajax and the Overhaelen players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 66th minute, Karsten van Ankeren hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Martin van Gessel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Diderik Eefting stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Martin van Gessel's shot from short distance in the 74th minute. Jan-Joost Telkamp's late challenge caught a Overhaelen's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jan-Joost Telkamp helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to ajax getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Jan-Joost Telkamp hit a great ball. Martin van Gessel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Diderik Eefting tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Diderik Eefting showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Peter Driel, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. If Martin van Gessel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
